Yes, it's academic to an extent. But that suits me. At any rate, we have to analyse, otherwise we're gambling on something very dangerous indeed.

I'm unfamiliar with how the oil would be split up. But I'd assume that most conventions are in place to handle new discoveries, shipwrecks, etc, and not necessarily the internal bickering of two countries-to-be divying up a shared resource. I certainly don't think it's going to be a clear-cut case.

Aside from that, lots of people do harbour a 'fuck the English' mentality, and many are unaware of how the Union came about in the first place. It scares me that the SNP gains this vote almost automatically. This vote is not an inconsiderable amount of the electorate.

Ultimately, my overbearing point has to be that it scares me that I'm not capable of knowing who is the "best" candidate to vote for. This despite doing more research in my spare time than most people will have tried.

The debate over whether or not we could 'make it' as an independent nation is, I think, largely academic. There is no way of knowing what'll happen until it happens, c'est la vie!

One way or another Scotland would survive, and it certainly wouldn't become a Banana Republic as some suggest ... we just don't have the climate

As I understand it there are international conventions and such like that govern who gets what and what territories belong to whom ... does the international maritime convention not cover such things as sea territories? I don't know

I'm not sure that independence is based on liking McConnel (or a. other) or the "fuck the English" mentality ... I think there is much more confidence and and belief in our little country now than there has been in a looooong time.

I think devolution has helped us solidify our own identity beyond "f***ing the English" ... we are the Scots and we are proud, and why the hell not!
